Welcome!

I’m Kevin Rutherford. I am a Lecturer in the Writing Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

I received my PhD in English (Composition and Rhetoric) from Miami University in Ohio in 2015. My dissertation research examined the role of nonhuman actors in rhetorical situations, specifically looking at video games (and the cultures surrounding the production and reception of games) as an example of rhetoric’s reliance on complex interconnections between and among humans and nonhumans.

I’ve taught a variety of writing courses, from technical writing to business writing to contemporary rhetorical theory to digital narrative.

If you’re a current student looking for your class website, you’ll find sites for the courses I’m teaching at UCSB this quarter on the sidebar to the right.
